What Does the Bible say about some of these
everyday issuses?
Homosexuality
- Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged
natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural
relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent
acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. (Romans 1:26,27)
"'Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman;
that is detestable. (Leviticus 18:22)
Jealousy - You
are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you
not worldly? Are you not acting like mere men? (1 Corinthians
3:3)
idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits
of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the
like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the
kingdom of God. (Galatians 5:20,21)
Judging Others - Accept
him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters. One man's
faith allows him to eat everything, but another man, whose faith is weak, eats only
vegetables. The man who eats everything must not look down on him who does not, and the
man who does not eat everything must not condemn the man who does, for God has accepted
him. Who are you to judge someone else's servant? To his own master he stands or
falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand. One man considers one
day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be
fully convinced in his own mind. He who regards one day as special, does so to the Lord.
He who eats meat, eats to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who abstains, does
so to the Lord and gives thanks to God. For none of us lives to himself alone and none of
us dies to himself alone. If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the
Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. (Romans
14:1-8)
"Do not judge, or you
too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be
judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. "Why do you look at
the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own
eye? How can you say to your
brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in
your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will
see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye. "Do not give dogs what is
sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their
feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces. (Matthew 7:1-6 )
Stop judging by mere
appearances, and make a right judgment." (John 7:24)
Kindness - In
reply Jesus said: "A man was going down from Jerusalem to
Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat
him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same
road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So too, a Levite, when he
came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he
traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he
put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he
took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper. 'Look after him,' he said, 'and
when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.' "Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell
into the hands of robbers?" The expert in the law replied, "The one who
had mercy on him." Jesus told him, "Go and do
likewise." (Luke 10:30-37)
As God's fellow workers we urge you not to receive God's
grace in vain. For he says, "In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of
salvation I helped you." I tell you, now is the time of God's favor, now is the day
of salvation. We put no stumbling block in anyone's path, so that our ministry will not be
discredited. Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great
endurance; in troubles, hardships and distresses; in beatings, imprisonments and riots; in
hard work, sleepless nights and hunger; in purity, understanding, patience and kindness;
in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love; in truthful speech and in the power of God;
with weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left; through glory and
dishonor, bad report and good report; genuine, yet regarded as impostors; known, yet
regarded as unknown; dying, and yet we live on; beaten, and yet not killed; sorrowful, yet
always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing
everything. We have spoken freely to you, Corinthians, and opened wide our hearts to you.
We are not withholding our affection from you, but you are withholding yours from us. (2 Corinthians 6:1-12)
